Behind Every Girl is an Amazing Nail Polish : Jane Austen Edition

Two things have been brought to my attention in the last week.
1. Austen in August is happening again.
2. I have a lot of nail polish.

While neither are shocking revelations, one is a yearly event hosted by the lovely Misty over at The Book Rat, the other is something I have blogged about before and has recently reached obsession level status.
Since I love Jane Austen, nail polish and blogging it would appear that it's time for another Behind Every Girl post.

Elizabeth Bennet

I've done Lizzy before. While I stand by this choice a few marathons of The Lizzy Bennet Diaries and a handful of viewings of the Joe Wright film colored my feelings on dear old Elizabeth's obviously chipped manicure. As a busy modern girl I see Lizzy wearing Lady Muck by Butter. This blue grey is more nuanced in person. It's fun but not shocking, professional but not boring and has just the right amount of personality to make it a signature color.

Jane Bennet

As before the LBD have changed my views on practically perfect Jane. To combine her shy, kind bookish character with the fashion forward, but still shy and sweet modern update I picked French Quarter for Your Thoughts by OPI. This taupe is subtle enough not to draw any unwanted attention but is chic enough to go with most outfits! 

Lydia Bennet

Lydia loves to shock. This attention seeking behavior would be perfectly aided by Essie's Brazilliant. This orange, which is MUCH brighter in person, would let Lydia be the center of attention at ever card game and ball she forced her way into.

Kitty Bennet

We all know that Kitty will follow where Lydia leads. With the guidance of her much wiser older sisters I would like to imagine that while she keeps tries to keep up with Lydia and her attention grabbing color she'd find something like Dotty by Maybelline to be a more interesting and sublet alternative. 

Marianne Dashwood

Marianne is full of life and love. Her carefree attitude and her tendency towards reckless abandon lead me to choose a lovely blue by China Glaze. For Audrey is light enough to be fun but is still a shade that Elinor and their mother would find improper.

Elinor Dashwood

Elinor has proven the most difficult. She's quite, like Jane, but with a twist. She's wise and well aware of what her family is going through. Her level head and realistic worldview lead me to eventually settle on A Piers To Be Tan by OPI. 

Emma Woodhouse

What is there to say about Emma. She's headstrong, but proper. She's bubbly, but then pushy. She's oblivious but would make a great tabloid reporter. Yes, I think that's the best way to describe her. She'd be great running some celebrity news blog that gets all it's facts 25% correct.  Her lack of understand wouldn't keep her from looking fabulous though. She'd totally rock Kerfuffle by Butter.  This delicate pink clashes with her forceful personality but easily fits the way Emma sees herself.

Catherine Morland

Catherine wants her life to resemble a Gothic novel so it stands to reason her nails would follow suit. Skyfall by OPI (yes like the James Bond movie) is a beautiful deep red. It looks like danger and castles and hidden secrets. All things Catherine salivates over!

Behind Every Girl is an Amazing Nail - Literary Series Edition

Seasons are changing, and while some people are thinking of school books and sweat shirts I'm thinking about colors. Not just any color's mind you, but the ones that come in small glass bottles with the little brushes on the lid. I'm talking about Nail Polish. Since my nails can only be so many colors at one time (and right now they are master plan) I've fallen back into the habit of dolling up everyone's favorite literary heroins.

Luna Lovegood
Oh Loony Luna, Your off the wall notions of mythical creature and forever cloud bound head is so endearing. While some might think you'd benefit from a few months in St. Mungo's we all know you're perfect just the way you are! Right down to you're Spark de Triomphe by OPI nails!

Nothing but glitter here! Here is the perfect blend of happy go lucky odd ball and mysterious night owl. The way the light hits each nail is bound to distract Luna during her next Potions lesson.


Katniss Everdeen
This distopian darling is a survivor through and through. With a fierce Independent streak and a mindset hell bent on protecting the ones she loves Katniss is every part the heroin girls everywhere want to be. Like every perfectly tuned warrior I think Katniss would want to be prepared for a cunning fight to the death even down to the tips of her fingers. That's why I chose Green Up Your Act by Nicole by OPI.

This no nonsense green is perfect for the ever fighting girl who still wants to look her best.


Samsa Stark

Pretty demure little Sansa! With your love of fashion and girly personality you're sure to make your your decked out from head to toe in nothing but the best. No unnecessary gloomy colors for you, that can be left for Ayra.  I'm sure you'd wear Buy Me a Cameo by Essie.

With this pretty in pink polish with a perfect ethereal shimmer you'll be able to keep your darling Prince wanting more.  


Hermione Granger

Between late nights studying in the common room and adventures with you're silly and incredibly attractive best friends there isn't much time for personal upkeep. But secretly you long for the Yule Ball and Slughorns Christmas parties just so you get the chance to pamper yourself. That's exactly why you'd keep a bottle of Marrow by Butter stashed in your nightstand.

This beautiful purple will compliment anything from a periwinkle dress to a darling party ensemble, and would even look good covered in ink splotches during History of Magic!


Anne Boleyn

You're the ultimate temptress. Who else could make the playboy king of England sit around like a little for years! You're witty, sneaky and ambitious, but you play as hard as you work. Just be careful you don't climb to high, the fall just might kill you. For writing all you're sneaky documents why don't you adorn your nails with Black Pearl by Chanel.

Perfect for business meetings,  formal parties and late night affairs your sure to intrigue with this shinning black. Plus you have the ultimate sugar daddy to pay for it!.

Behind Every Girl is an Amazing Nail Polish

I'm kind of a girly girl. I like frilly things, and stuffed animals and pastels. Oh, and nail polish. Nail polish is kind of my thing. So when I was looking through the two dozen bottles on top of my bookshelf looking for the perfect color I got to thinking, what would some of my favorite literary heroines decorate their nails with? Here's what I came up with!

Scarlett O'Hara 

You all know Scarlett, she's sassy, manipulative and charming. Her name and personality inspire fierce passion. My pick for Scarlett is Royal Rajah Ruby by OPI

It's red, but dark, with a hint of sparkle and dash of vamp and sass.  

Lady Macbeth

Oh, so you want to be King? You better hope you're wife is as devoted to your cause as Lady M is. Killing a sleeping, kind king isn't exactly childs play. Shes dark. Really dark.  My pick for Lady Macbeth is My Darling by Milani

It's black, but sheer. It creates an air of mystic and awe, and would easily hide those 'spots' she keeps complaining about.

Lolita

You saucy little girl, you! I bet even you're short, bitten fingernails are tempting to the likes of Humbert! My pick for Lolita is Temptress by Revlon 

Bubble gum pink, with a hint of sparkle. It's a super flirty color, and with a name like Temptress it's obvious why little Lo would dart towards this color.

Juliet Capulet 

Juliet's you're typical teenager. She's in love, her parents don't like her boyfriend. (okay, her parents don't like her husband) Also, she's rash with her decision making, and inwardly she is rebellious, even if she usually listens to her parents. I think that to demenistrate her love for Romeo, and give an extra kick to her parents she'd pick a blue. A Montague blue, instead of the reds the Capulet are always wearing. My pick for Juliet is Russian Navy by OPI

A rich, deep blue. It's perfect for a rebellious teen, and a Montague. 

Narcissa Malfoy

The matriarch of the Malfoy family is sleek, stylish and surprisingly loving. While she is not a Death Eater she does agree with their policies, and she was a Slytherin through and through.  My pick for Narcissa is Cuckoo for this Color by OPI

After seeing this color I have been dying to write OPI to start a Harry Potter collection, and more importantly change the name of this polish to Heir of Slytherin. 

Elizabeth Bennant

Elizabeth is the every girl. She's smart and funny. She is very independent and headstrong, but has a soft side where her family is concerned. While her attitude isn't always conventional, I think her overall look and nail color would be classical, even if her nails were chipped and her hem dirty. My pick for Lizzy is Dulce De Leche by OPI 

Ducle De Leche is a classical soft pink. It would go well with the pastels and empire dresses that we usually see in all adaptations of Pride and Prejudice. 

Franny Glass

Franny is the perfect picture of quirky and naive. I picture her following most style conventions but occasionally adding a pop of something odd. I also imagine that her brothers probably teased her about this. My pick for Franny is Pea's and Q's by Nicole by OPI 

I really love this color, and it's perfect for the naive actress who has a slight breakdown.
